Morning Solitude

I woke up at sunrise. A songbird outside of my window was the reason for my peace and solitude to be destroyed. There was a bird feeder just outside that was left there by my father back when he was still alive. I hated it, but I left it there in loving memory of the man who placed it there. I began sitting up and rubbing my eyes almost excessively due to my exhaustion. My usual morning routine began around at around eleven o’clock, when I finally dragged myself out of bed. I rarely heard the annoying chirping of those damn birds. I opened my drapes slowly, trying not to scare the bird, for I wanted to have a clean look at the culprit. It was an under sized bluebird. State bird. Like I give a crap. The bird feeder was running low. He must be hungry. I banged on the window frame somewhat harshly and the bluebird flew away. I thought about laying back down and getting more sleep, which I would do on an average morning if I awoke so early, but I just couldn’t today for some reason. After closing my drapes, I began to walk toward the bathroom for my morning visit. While I was urinating, I found myself whistling the same tune that the bluebird had woken me with. I immediately stopped with some frustration that the tune was stuck in my mind. After I finished relieving myself, I took a stomping walk to the kitchen where I would continue on with my favorite part of the day, breakfast. Today I had a bit of a sweet tooth. I was beginning to make chocolate chip pancakes with lots of maple syrup. Perhaps too much. As I was mixing the batter, I heard a familiar tune from my awakening. I set down the large, yellow bowl full of batter and proceeded toward the living room where the largest window was located in the house. I took a long stare at the nuisance. Another bluebird singing the same song as the last. Just chirping along while standing
